At Home with: Larry Kulisek & Judy Levesque
Our clients, Larry Kulisek and Judy Levesque, are no strangers to the world of history and literature. Larry, a retired history professor from the University of Windsor, spent over 50 years teaching urban and local history. Judy, known for her impeccable taste, served as the executive assistant to the CEO of the Windsor Public Library.
Their shared love for unique and historic places led Larry and Judy to a Border City Living open house in 2018 as they planned for their next chapter. Now, they’re living in a stunning high-rise condo overlooking the Detroit skyline, a testament to their distinct style.
“We weren’t sure if we were high-rise people at first, but when we walked into the condo, we were enamoured with the million-dollar view of the Detroit River and Belle Isle. If the building were moving, it would be like being on a cruise ship,” Larry shares with a smile. Their inquisitive Bengal cat, Archie, also appreciates the bird’s eye view. With its spacious floor plan and multiple walk-in closets, the renovated condo offered them the low-maintenance lifestyle they sought – with walls large enough to display their rotating art collection.
Their first home together was a charming two-story house in Walkerville, with small bedrooms and a tiny 3′ x 3′ bathroom with pink tiles. Judy fondly recalls, “We made it work, but this condo is the first time I’ve had an ensuite bathroom, and I’ve made it my sanctuary.” With the help of another BCL client, Kass Design Studio, she brought her bathroom dreams to life, creating a feminine and welcoming space centred around a floral patterned sink.
Their condo, mostly updated before they moved in, allowed them to add personal touches that reflect their style and penchant for travel. Judy’s European roots and the couple’s adventures across the Southwest USA, Alaska, Newfoundland, and the Rockies inspire their décor. Their home features mid-century modern furniture from Flow Furniture, art pieces from local Windsor artist Holly Wolter, and exquisite handblown glass pieces from Soffi Studio.
Judy and Larry’s journey to their perfect condo was a true adventure, not just about finding a place to live but about discovering a home that truly reflected their lifestyle and interests. “We knew we wanted something special, and we had to jump when we found it,” Judy explains. Their determination paid off when they found themselves in a competitive bidding situation. “We rushed to the car and signed the offer right there. Border City Living presented our offer immediately, and we won against the other buyer.”
Ensuring they weren’t overextended was crucial for Larry and Judy, as they wanted to maintain a budget for travel and experiences. “Balance is important,” Judy notes, and their condo offers just that. Larry now enjoys his miles-long walks along the Detroit River, and Judy continues to decorate their home with life’s beautiful things.
