The McKeens House Tour

Prepare to absolutely swoon over this charming two bedroom home in Riverside. The house itself may not be big but every inch is packed with interesting details that don’t overwhelm the space. The McKeens, who aren’t a sight for sore eyes either, have captured one of my favourite interior combos: white on white, natural wood and focal points with huge wow factor.

Lynda McKeen is a mom and successful Insta-blogger with 30,000+ followers – in my mind that makes her a multi-talented stylist, interior designer and photographer. While speaking to her about some of her favourite places to shop, she let me know about Lucent Light Shop where she grabbed this 70s inspired Sputnik chandelier. I’ve been checking them out and I’m in love.

The attic of the house was opened up by the former owner, an architect who also drew the plans for the beautiful custom stairs leading to the bedroom loft. The black iron and the natural wood really pop next the white walls.

In a small space like this, where it’s best to keep things light an airy, wallpaper can be a great way to add some colour and coziness without overwhelming a room – and of course Lynda, being the rockstar mom that she is, collects different patterns from all over Instagram (list below).

I’m a huge fan of tall baseboards and wide trim paired with natural wood. The combination creates a frame for windows that makes them seem like pictures hanging on the wall.

The skylights, glass block, ceiling height and open concept allow the light to flow from room to room. I was here on a grey winter day and from inside you’d never know it. I’m excited to come back and visit during summer when the trees are green and everything’s in full bloom although there’s something serene about this house in this weather that I really like.
