The Royce Detroit
The Royce is an intimate wine bar in the heart of downtown Detroit, in the west end of Grand Circus Park, offering more than just happy hour and small bites. This theatre district meeting spot was opened in 2016 by owner and wine director Ping Ho as a hospitality retail concept that fits the bill for any good wine and cheese lover. Having a selection of over 500 types of wine and with sustainability at the forefront of their selection and practices, they host a world class experience and a variety of events and services for all walks of life.
The exterior windows have a casual moodiness, seducing you to step out of the city, through an entry way into a thoughtful, elegant and relaxed interior of carefully curated exposed bricks, Edison bulbs, brass fixtures, cane back chairs and a lounge-y loft with leather sofas, cocktail tables and low light. A space for patrons to escape, be inspired, and uncork while the informative staff guide you through their selection of organic and biodynamic wines, local cheeses and nibbles to match.
The social calendar at The Royce includes weekly happy hours and free wine tastings, sometimes private events (if you’re one of the lucky ones who get an invite), free wine tastings on Wednesdays from 5:30-7PM and the monthly ‘G Party’, downtowns only LGBTQ wine party with extended hours and local DJ’s to spin you through the night. If you’re into the same things as we are, we recommend popping in for a mid-afternoon drink and quick accompaniment before heading on to a full meal or show nearby. But if you prefer your heavy bodies at home you can join the wine club for a carefully curated selection of whites, reds, rose and sparkling to take out. The Royce is closed Monday but they have a sister in the East Village called Marrow, a butcher shop restaurant thats also worth checking out.
