Mid-Century on Curry
Fellow Windsor lovers, Shane and Lauren Potvin, have collected treasures from around the city and put them together in a way that showcases their nostalgic sense of style. Their South Windsor home has been the perfect stage for their vintage collectables, with its mid-century architecture and modern updates but alas, it’s now time for someone new to appreciate this special beauty as they move on, to our hood in Walkerville, and we list it for sale this week.
I’ve only noticed a few ranches in the area with this type of flat roof and skinny brick (and none as well maintained as this one) making it a rare find that’s sure impress for many years to come. The home’s decor is a tip of the hat to yesteryear, begging you inside as you drive up the quiet street – it’s easy to imagine walking in just as your significant other finishes shaking you a drink.
It’s a hard balance to obtain but, for me, the sweet spot on the axis of coziness, is a home that’s both incandescently and naturally lit. Fireplaces also help ease a room from day into night, perfect for reading a book or listening to records. Houses like these, with two family rooms, make it possible to have a TV-free zone for entertaining or simply unwinding after a day of craziness at the advertising office.
For this duo, the design is in the details. Like some of our other blog collaborators, they shop at Three60 Vintage and Dusty Loft Antiques. We’re big fans of how Shane and Lauren mix and match their pieces: a blend of pop art with texture and retro-chic. Their dining table and glassware came from Hollands Consignment Shoppe and Auction House on Ottawa Street – somewhere we’ve been meaning to check out. Many of their cross-stitches and art pieces are hand-me-downs, made by friends or by the couple themselves.
Shane is the owner of the local, full-service advertising agency, Tango Creative Group in Walkerville (a previous tenant at the new Border City Living Headquarters) and Lauren is an educational assistant. It’s been such a pleasure working with them on this project and I have a pretty good feeling that once these couple of doers get settled into their new place we’ll be planning a new house tour to show you soon.
Listed for $299,900 with Vision Realty Windsor Inc.
